About Us

Attitudes and emotions play a significant role in athletic competition. Otherwise, how does one explain...

  • Why some baseball players hit for a lower average when the game is on the line?
  • Why some pitchers are more effective when an opposing player is in scoring position?
  • Why some quarterbacks have a higher percentage of interceptions in a close game?
  • Why a golfer hits longer and better positioned tee shots when he or she is ahead by two or more strokes?
  • Why some basketball players complete a significantly lower percentage of foul shots in “crunch time” during a close game?
Sports Psychology Center has identified the psychological traits present (or absent) in elite athletes participating in various sports, at different age and experience levels… high school and college students, national teams, professionals and adults.

The three traits which consistently separate elite athletes from others are self-confidence, commitment to succeed/excel, and resilience/ability to bounce back after a defeat or disappointment.

Our assessments have been carefully developed using scientific methods---and they can accurately predict how mental approaches and traits compare with those of elite athletes in specific sports and will identify areas where individuals may wish to focus.

The bottom line reports with scores and assessments with norms/percentiles for each of 20+ mental traits---helping coaches, parents and players to identify what are or may be considered psychological strengths and weaknesses for an individual (especially in comparison with player peers).

Each of our assessments provide scientifically-validated information about the presence of mental traits including those areas which separate elite athletes from average ones:

  • Work ethic/drive
  • Commitment/determination to succeed and level of competitiveness/drive
  • Self-confidence (especially in sports abilities) plus ability/willingness to handle stress/pressure
  • Resiliency and ability to “bounce-back” after adversities
  • Concentration skills during practice/competition.

(In addition each assessment will soon have age-appropriate intelligence and mental speed test.)
